High Thrust & Kicker Outboards
Yamaha High Thrust outboards — purpose-built for trolling and kicker applications.
The T-series is not a standard outboard lineup. These motors share horsepower ratings with their F-series counterparts but are engineered from the gear case up for one specific job: maximum thrust at low speed. Larger gear case, lower gear ratio, more push through the slow-troll range where salmon fishing actually happens.
If you're rigging a kicker motor for a BC salmon boat, or powering a pontoon or heavy displacement hull that needs serious low-speed authority, this is the correct category. The F-series motors are not substitutes for the T-series in these applications.
Choosing between T-series models
- T9.9 — the most common kicker motor on BC salmon boats. Meets the 10hp restriction on HP-restricted waters. Correct for 17–21 foot salmon trolling boats with a main motor up to 115hp. Available in tiller and remote configurations.
- T25 — the serious kicker for larger, heavier hulls. Correct for 20–26 foot boats with a main motor of 150hp or larger, running strong tidal current where the T9.9 would be working at its limit.
- T50 — high-thrust power for pontoons and heavy multi-hull platforms requiring strong low-speed push from a compact motor.
- T60 — maximum output from Yamaha's 1-litre high-thrust platform. Purpose-built for larger pontoons and heavy displacement hulls where low-speed control is the priority.
