The Yamaha T9.9 is not a standard portable outboard. It is Yamaha’s high-thrust variant of the 9.9hp class — engineered specifically for low-speed trolling, kicker applications, and situations where controlled thrust at slow speeds matters more than top-end performance.

The difference between the T9.9 and the standard F9.9 comes down to the gear case and gear ratio. The T9.9 runs a larger gear case with a lower gear ratio, which produces significantly more thrust at trolling speeds. That translates to better holding in current, smoother speed control through the 1.5–3.5 mph salmon trolling range, and more authority when you need to adjust position without firing the main.

The T9.9 is available in long shaft (20") and extra-long shaft (25"). Long shaft is correct for most kicker applications on BC salmon boats. Confirm your transom or bracket height before ordering.

Is the T9.9 available with electric start?
Yes. The T9.9 is available with electric start, manual start, or electric start with a manual backup — the backup option is worth specifying if you’re running remote locations where a dead battery is a real problem.

Can the T9.9 move the boat at normal speeds if needed?
It will push the boat at displacement speeds — enough to reposition, run short distances, or get home if the main motor has an issue. It is not designed to get a heavy boat on plane and should not be evaluated on that basis. Its purpose is controlled low-speed thrust, and it excels at that.
