One of the most common questions we get: how does a 200-pound outboard motor actually get from us to you in northern Alberta? Fair question. Outboards aren't like buying a jacket on Amazon. Here's how the freight process works, what to expect, and how to make it go smoothly.
Freight Carrier, Not Courier
Outboard motors ship via commercial freight carrier — not Canada Post, not Purolator, not FedEx standard. Depending on your location, we use national LTL (less-than-truckload) carriers that specialize in large and heavy freight.
This means:
- Shipments go to a freight terminal in your area, or to a residential or commercial address
- You'll get a tracking number and can monitor transit
- Delivery timelines are longer than parcel shipping — typically 3–7 business days within BC and Alberta, 5–10 days to more remote locations
- Motors arrive palletized or crated and secured for transit
What Residential Delivery Looks Like
If you're receiving at a residential address, the carrier will contact you to schedule a delivery window. Depending on the carrier and your location, delivery is either tailgate (the driver brings it to your property line) or you pick it up at the nearest freight terminal.
For anything over 100lbs, having another person or a hand truck on site is practical. If you have a commercial address, loading dock, or shop — specify that when you request your quote. It streamlines the process.
Where We Ship
Everywhere in Canada. We've shipped to Metro Vancouver, rural BC interior, Northern Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Maritimes, and Northern Ontario. If there's a freight terminal within reach of your address, we can get a motor to you.
Remote locations (Northern BC, Yukon, NWT) are possible but we'll work through the logistics with you on the quote — carrier options vary and freight costs reflect the distance.
What Happens When It Arrives
Inspect the shipment before signing anything. Check the crate or pallet for visible damage. If you see any damage to the packaging — note it on the delivery receipt before you sign. Do not refuse the shipment for minor packaging issues, but always document anything visible.
If there's damage to the motor itself upon inspection, photograph it immediately and contact us. We handle freight claims and will work to resolve it quickly.
Taxes and Duties
We're a Canadian dealer selling to Canadian customers. There are no cross-border duties or import complications. Provincial sales tax (PST) and GST apply as normal for your province.
Can I Pick Up?
Yes. If you're in the Lower Mainland of BC, local pickup is available. Contact us to arrange and we'll confirm the details.
What About Installation?
We sell and ship the motors. Installation and rigging should be done by a qualified marine technician in your area, which is also required to validate the factory warranty. If you're in a smaller community and need help finding a qualified Yamaha service dealer near you, contact us and we'll help you locate one.
Ready to order? Request a quote and include your postal code — we'll confirm freight cost to your location and get back to you same day. We can finance any Yamaha outboard we list online — from the F2.5 through the F350 — O.A.C. Ask about payment options when you request your quote.
